Children's Hour

Last August 2013, EEI supported the CommUNITY Through Literacy (CTL) Program of Children’s Hour. The CTL project aims to actively engage local governments, the Department of Education, socio-civic groups, schools, teachers, parents and students to implement systemic programs that will improve the processes, systems and structures of learning and teaching. These programs include: building capacities of teachers and school officials, organizing parents into learning support systems, conducting communitywide education summits, developing workbooks and instructional materials, continuously assessing student performance, reinventing local school boards and conducting enrichment activities. Through these interventions, the project will improve the performance of children in reading, a basic skill that is the foundation lifelong learning.

EEI invited and encouraged its employees and subsidiaries at the homebase, in projects, including those overseas, to donate a minimum of one hour’s worth of salary to the cause. After 6 weeks of campaign, donations totaled to more than P317 thousand.

EEI Steel Fabrication Division Donates “Kabute”

Last May 25, 2013, EEI was invited by the Bolo-San Miguel-Gulibay Elementary School faculty to grace the culminating program of Brigada Eskwela as a sign of its gratitude for EEI’s contribution of bleachers for their basketball court, sheds and stools for their school yard.

The Project Management Team used steel remnants from previous projects and scrap crate materials to fabricate the bleachers and the sheds which the teachers fondly call “kabute”. These are the centerpieces of their garden and social hall.

More kabutes are now being fabricated for the school.

EEI SFD’s Estero Clean-Up

The Steel Fabrication Division Project Management Team participated in the estero/river clean-up drive of Gontong River. Various wastes, most of which were plastic, were collected making a total of almost 5 tons. The clean-up participants left the river clean with the canal water smoothly flowing again.

Brigada Eskwela

EEI has been actively supporting the 15th Infantry Division of the Engineer Combat Battalion in their projects; among these include clean-up drives, medical missions, tree planting, and rescue and relief operations. The Brigada Eskwela or the "Oplan Lingkod Paaralan" is one of their most accomplished programs, where EEI donates materials and supplies, sends volunteers, and lends its trucks, buses and other vehicles almost every weekend to the AFP Military Team. The Team helps adopted schools by repairing and painting chairs, cleaning the surroundings, fixing electrical appliances, wirings, piping, roofing, and floorings.
